Configure main domain on a different server, outside i-mscp

  • Hello everybody,

I wonder if there is a way to configure the DNS part, in i-mscp so that the main domain (domain.tld and cname www.domain.tld) to point outside, on a different server?
The scenario is, main website is hosted outside i-mscp, i-mscp is used only for DNS, subdomains, mail and all that.

For the moment I moddified the bind zone file so that it point to a different ip address where the website is running. Problem is that each time a subdomain is created, that file is overwritten.

    Thanks.

  • Now I see that I just post it under a wrong forum cathegory. Sorry for that, can it be moved?

    PS: i-mscp 1.2.2 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

This is possible using that listener: Listener::Named::Tuning

To resume here, if you set custome DNS for your domain, it will replace the default which is added by i-MSCP. www is a CNAME so you must just add a custom DNS record for <domain.tld>.

Note: This listener is only compatible with the 1.2.x branch. For a version compatible with previous version, see: https://github.com/nuxwin/i-ms…ners.d/10_named_tuning.pl

  • One small example in that listener will be perfect.
For example how to point A record for domain example.com to 8.8.8.8 and make www cname to A record or point
    it to the same ip.

That listener has been already rewritten for 1.3.x...
