may cloudflare is worth to try.
any other gimmics at your server side is not worth the time. in my eyes only hardware solutions will do the thing before the crap reach your server.

das sind 3(drei) Branches/versionen. die unterschiede von 1.1.x und 1.2.x sind ja jeweils zu erlesen, und auch nur die 2 sind fuer den "heissen" einsatz gedacht. -
leider kann ich nur fuer die 1.2.x branch antworten, da gibts keine probleme.

as for at least at my installations/servers they never ever had a crash on any services. so i recommend a deep research at log-files to find out what the reason is.
