  • thanks for the reply
i could be mistaken in my line of thinking
i thought that "Latest Stable: 1.0.3.0" meant everything worked out of the box. (im using 1.0.3.0)

i thought that "Latest Beta/RC: 1.1.0-rc3" is built on the 1.0.3.0 with added features and its not stable. i also read somewhere that it only supports external mail servers.
so i think the latest rc may not be for me as i dont use external mail servers. im using postfix and dovecot within imscp

please accept my apoliges if my infomation is incorrect with regards the the latest rc.

    thanks
    [hr]
i just looked in the /etc/dovecot/ and there is noting in that folder.
i thought that there should be at the very least dovecot.conf.

is this the way it is or should there be some files there?

  • Hello ;

The 1.0.3.0 (current *stable*) is full of bug because it was released too fast without sufficient tests... Surely because some of us wanted release something as stable as soon as possible without more thinking (follow my eyes)

Well, the latest RC is also not free of any bug but *should* be more stable than the official stable... Many features (not only the ext. mail feature) and bugfixes were integrated in it. Anyway, if you want use i-MSCP on latest Debian/Ubuntu versions, you'll have not other choice than to choose the last RC (or Git Master) because the current *stable* is not compatible. The next table should be released on September if all goes fine. We have no due date because this time, we do not want repeat the same mistakes.

Thanks you for your interest in i-MSCP

  • thanks for all the replies and for the clarification.

i have a couple silly questions
1, when the other new version is released do i have to redo everything again or can i upgrade?

2, does the new version support inbuilt email servers (i hope thats right) like 1.0.3 because i dont use external email servers?

i work with media files and so
i need a website to advertise my services.
i need email to communicate and an ftp to receive and send files.

if i can get those 3 things working like i had before then 1.1.0 will be good enough for me

    thank you

Upgrading is of course possible and can be done in a very short time. If you do not have any manual changes then it will only take about 5 mins :)

i-MSCP uses postfix like 1.0.3 which is installed automatically.

For websites apache is used and for FTP proftpd. Both are automatically installed

  • well as luck would have it ....... this new version is not supported in ubuntu 11-10 dddaaammmm
it seems im always bloody unlucky with imscp.... i finally had time to format my vps to try install this 110rc3. during installation it says 11.10 ubutnu is not supported and that i should ask to put some files in....
in reality i dont know if this is progress or a blinking waste of time.
at least 1.0.3. was working for a long while and to make matters worst, i really loved it too. lol

so whats the story now.... will some one add 11.10 to the queue, will it ever be supported, is to too old, do you just dump a system like that or is this all just normal ?????

in the meantime for an answer. my vps is clean and ill be here twiddling my fingers and whistling sweet dixie till someone tell me what will happen or if i whistle long enough to have a dry mouth then im off.

    lol

  • Normal Ubuntu versions have very short life times. So either you update your installation every 9 months or you use the LTS version.

    See: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Btw: You can upgrade to a new Ubuntu version without formatting you hard drive. This is actually pretty simple an very well documented.

  • after some sleep
thanks for the replies guys. :)

i just written of to my vps provider for them to upgrade my vps to
ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64bit. since it is forbidden for the client to do it as the vps container will crash ..... so i await an answer.

    in the meantime......
i looked here..... https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LTS and i notice that 10.04 LTS will go out some time in 2015. so i went to my vps and looked at all the ubuntu images that is supported and i noticed that they offer
    Ubuntu 10.0.4 x86_64.

since im on 11.04 now which is not LTS, im wondering. would it make sense to redo my vps to 10.04.
but the question is does 1.1.0.3 rc3 work with that distribution?

to tell you the truth i dont even know if im going about this the correct way. lololol. :D:D:D atleast it beats having nothing on a big empty vps lol
