You listed two things from the log:
two disconnection from pop3 and two disconnection from imap. The imap at least seem to have a faulty username.
The pop3 logins seem to have a problem with TLS.
Normally thunderbird asks if the cert is not ok (self signed etc).
Try to connect without TLS/SSL etc - just plain text and then try the other options (STARTTLS or SSL - on port 993).
I tried to connect your server on port 993 and 995 (IMAPS, POP3S) and this worked (unsing openssl)...

you may - if you do not want to upgrade - remove the entry in the database.
login in pma - change to db imscp, table ftp_group and ftp_users... there you need to search for the right entry...
remove them (in ftp_users there's one line, in ftp_groups either en entry in the field members in one line - or you may remove the line (if only one member)).... I hope you see the point...
Since proftpd directly reads in this place - no further changes are needed.

I just want to reply to some of the points:
2) support for horde is not really hard - if you need the vacation and password module, then you may build your own "driver" for i-mscp... I have it up and running.
4) I thik the 3 level of the users is not that bad - an admin can create resellers and a reseller can create his users. Of course you can argue "why not create a user as admin and provide a reseller for the user...
Normally you work as reseller in the panel... not as admin.
5) Every customer has a php.ini for all of his domains. It's possible to give the customer the right to change some few settings which might be needed. Of course this does not work with mod-php.
6) a reseller can disable his customers (it's configurable if emails still can be received (mta side) or not).
and maybe you provide some details when you say "*Here* we can..."

Ggf. ist auch noch der policyd-weight im Spiel - aber in beiden Fällen werden Mails entweder angenommen - und dann sollten sie im Postfach sein - oder abgelehnt - und dann sind sie zurück beim Absender.
Die Mail-Logs sollten klären, was los ist. Wenn da nichts von den erwarteten Mails drin steht, dann dürften diese Mails wohl den Server bisher nie erreicht haben.
Dann sid sie entweder woanders gelandet oder sollten nach ca 4 Tagen wieder an den Absender zurück gehen.

Es gab da mal eine kleine Diskussion - ich meinte, es wurde nun so gemacht, damit es sicherer wird.
Versuch doch mal im FTP-Programm die Berechtigungen des backup-Ordners zu ändern, bzw. den Besitzer: statt root setze es auf deinen User (vu20xx). Danach sollte es gehen.
Vielleicht anschliessend wieder zurücksetzen.
Ich hoffe, das geht - und ich vermute, man müsste die Sache nochmals ansehen....
