Currently all services are stopped/started with the /etc/init.d/servicename command. This syntax is more and more deprecated, especially with Ubuntu 14.04, where the Dovecot package doesn't ship such a script anymore.
Instead the command 'service' should be used, e.g. service dovecot start
As a workaround for Dovecot, there is an init script provided here: http://wiki2.dovecot.org/DovecotInit
But sadly, this script is not really stable. Sometimes the restarting fails and imscp can't continue working on it's current task.
