We are having random (not reproducable, and I am not sure how to debug this) trouble with php-cgi / mod_fcgid and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. After some time (days) the webserver (all pages) responds with 503 Errors while I can see a lot of php-cgi processes (100 overall, not of the same vuXXXX). Restarting the Webserver solves this. I can see a few (5) zombie php-cgi processes.
The same setup on debian wheezy does not have this problem. As far as I can tell the only difference between the debian and ubuntu setup are the used versions. I tried a downgrade of mod_fcgi in the Ubuntu machines which made the bug happen less frequently (not every day).
In Ubuntu mod_fcgid 1:2.3.9-1 is installed, I downgraded to 2.3.6-1. In Debian 2.3.6-1 is installed. php-fpm does not have this issues.
Might that have to do with some limits? What information could I provide?
