Hi Sven,
when you login as admin or as reseller and switch to the customer and add a domain alias, it is approved immediately.
When you login as customer and you add a domain alias, the reseller get an email and have to approve this domain-alias.

I have also upgraded from an very old version. I deactivated all plugins. Then I upgraded in small steps. 1.1.x -> 1.2.x -> 1.3.x -> 1.4.x -> 1.5.1.
Very important to read the errata instructions. I have non trouble with this situation.Greets
